Hi guys,

i have a 90 gallon that currently had Discus in. I want to get rid of the discus as I don't find them particularly interesting. We once had a Frontosa and would like to go back to having larger more interesting fish.

the tank is a 90 gallon, water is HMA at ph 7.5,gh 15, kh 8 and conductivity 800ms. Lighting is LED and I run 2 fluval 405's. My water change routine is 20% daily at the moment but can change to suit.

really like the look of veija but understand that the tank is too small.

is there anything other than Oscars and Midas that are colourful that you could recommend?

if I can house more than one species in the tank that's a bonus but idea.ly I'd like something large and interesting. Maybe something a little different. Never kept SA/CA so will be guided by you guys.

any help will be really appreciated as I don't want to get it wrong. Our tank was too small for the Frontosa that we grew to love so I had to give him up. The Mrs cried her eyes out so I don't want a repeat of that :(

Regards,

you could do some of the vieja, heterospilla in a community or others with just cats and dithers ....synaspillum and black belts are great solo cichlids ...and a 90 is PLENTY of room for a 12inch solo cichlid...:)

Ah so a veija synaspillum could be possible?...

yes... that would make a great solo cichlid ,with maybe a cat and few big giant danios or other LARGE schoolers... this also may prompt you to upgrade later...it wont be neede but some people get the bug(like me)to make their fish"really comfortable":)

While i do have a breeding pair of creamsicle midas in mine... sorry, just saying... I would maybe try a breeding pair of yellowhead la ceiba freddies?

I'd say a flowerhorn is much more appropriate than a synspilum. All the "vieja" species are active and athletic fish and, as adults, need more space than a 90G can give IMO. Flowerhorns also have enormous personalities !
