so....i have a 4x2x2 and my mum wants marine. im not too keen on this idea BUT im open to options.
so, what would you recommend? moneys not a problem but i am in the uk, so not sure what would be available.

thanks

chloe

I always thought a 4x2x2 would make a great reef tank. That's a lot of water volume, but the problem is that there's not a lot of swimming room for any larger freshwater fish or saltwater fish for that matter. If you wanted to do African cichlids, they would do great in a 120 (450l), and they are my personal favorite, so go for it! Some other options would be bichirs, a few SA cichlids (or a lot of the smaller ones), some type of small semi-aggressive community, Angels/Discus w/ a blk ghost knife and some ornamental plecos would be up there on the list for me. Sorry to ramble, just thinkin out loud.
Top choices:
1. Reef
2. Africans
3. Angels/Discus

Good luck with your decision!

nope definitly has to be marine. i had it set up with a bichir, 2 fronts, 1 blood parrot, 2 lobsters, 1 1.5ft plec, lil sailfin plec and talking catfish...im aware i had overstocked but had only just got the small plec and catfish and was getting rid of the parrot this wknd...but then had a crisis, my mum called me in the middle of the night while i was away last wknd and said that all the fish had died! so i got the 2 plecs, catfish and bichir left, but will be upgrading them to a 6.5x3x2.
so it just leaves me with the smaller tank, but after that happening im a bit scared to go to marine. mum said she would pay as long as i look after it....but hmmmm.
now its me rambling lol

only coz thats what she wants lol! just dont lknow what to put in there, i would LOVE a lionfish but they like to hunt in pack so not only would i need a few more i would also need a tank the size of a house!!!

you would do fine with just one lionfish as long as there are no smaller fish or inverts they can eat

Yeah, actually people ususally only keep lionfish in pairs or in groups in really large tanks (M/F pairs in a slightly smaller tank). If mum's payin for a salt tank because its what she likes and you're willing to dive in too, I'd go for it. Its best to start your first marine tank on a not-so-tight budget.

well forget i said anything just bought 3 frontosas and 2 flowerhorns lol. so i will need to get a bigger tank for them when they get a bit bigger and then il keep the 4 ft for my bichir, 2 plecs and talking catfish. 1 plecs already 1.5ft and still growing lol so he will need that tank! but thanks everyone for the ideas. also, for ppl in england, the bloke i just bought my fish off knows a lady with a 8.5x3x3 for sale for £300, its new and she bought it for a rtc but it died before it got in the tank. let me know if your interested and i can give you the contacts.
