Currently, I am in the process of getting rid of my Mpimbwe Frontosas (5 of them), a Malawi Eye Biter, and a syn cat. They are just getting too big for my 55 and have to go. However unfortunate this may be, I do not have the ability to get a bigger tank for my apartment and I would rather give the frontosas up to a bigger home. Right now I am contemplating what fish I could replace them with in the 55. I want to avoid any possible future tank upgrades for the fish I would be putting in it, so I'm looking for some fish that can stay in there for life. Right now I am leaning towards a Male Green Terror, convicts, silver dollars, firemouths, and a senegal bichir (or maybe go the dwarf pike route?). What do you think I should put in there out of those fish? I would really like to have a great looking male GT so which of those other fish, and how many, should I put with the GT? Like always, I would like to avoid substantial aggression conflicts between the fish. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

you could go with a complete dwaf cichlid tank... just an idea... then you could have a few more fish without them getting too big for the tank! errrmmm in a 55 you could have a green terror and poss a pair of jewels and a pair of convicts but these 3 types are all quite aggressive... make sure you have alot of hides and you should be ok... good luck and when you have them all settled pics would be great ...... i miss my gt :(

The Green Terror will fit in the 55g and will live but is it an ideal home? Will he be comfortable and content? Not really. I kept a big male GT in a 55 gallon for years when I got in the hobby and he became a mean glass banging psychopath. Later on when I put him in the 156g, he mellowed out quite a bit. I think the small confinement drove him crazy. Some people think the glass banging is cool and it is to an extent, but not 24/7 365. Man I really liked that fish. Had him for 8 years and you know what, it was a more rewarding experience when I saw he was happy. Weird huh. Anyway...you should stick with fish that won't grow more than 6-8" imho.

I personally think a 55 is too small for a male gt.... a male will reach 10" if not bigger and will get really thick.... I have a 8" male and i could not imagine him in a 55.... sure a GT can live in a 55 for a while but since your not upgrading I would suggest you look into other cichlids such as salvini and other small cichlids....

Green Terrors get big 8-10". I've also noticed males develop their nuchal hump better in bigger tanks. Small tanks surpresses the growth of their KOK! Plus territorial fish have a tendency to be more aggressive in smaller spaces.

I wouldn't keep a male GT in a 55g for life either.

If you want to do a breeding pair you can do a pair of Salvini or a pair of JDs for larger fish. Otherwise a peaceful SA dwarf community setup would work as well.
