I was planning on doing fantail goldfish and black moor with a pleco, but without my heater plugged in. My tank got up to 86 degrees since it was storming and i had to close my window. I have my AC on in my room and the tank is still 84 degrees, so i think i need something that can tolerate the higher temps!

What thermometer do you use? What temp was the AC set to?

I doubt the temp would remain at 84 degrees like that. It should have been cooler than that. Check to see if your filters may be heating up especially if you have pumps around. Maybe relocate your thermometers and see what the temp reading will be.

the fish you have can tolerate some heat..but 86 is definitely pushing it.

Remember that a hot tank has a reduction in oxegen..so add some air stone or filters..

I have a tank in my kitchen than gets too hot when I cook.

I turn on an air stone and I place small fan on top of the tank to create ripples on the surface..

the fan usually bring the temp back down quickly...

I have also heard of people using chillers..

But since you are thinking about it..why not put the fish you want in a pond..because they will need a pond (because of size and waste production)

And get something that would be happy to live out its life in your tank..

u could do a Ctenolucius hujeta, African knife, Polypterus senegalus.
