I have a 55 gal with a JD ( i am giving to a friend ) and i was thinking of a native tank. What can i put in other then just sunnies?

I was thinking of maby a bullhead? and maby a redfin pickerel.

Sounds fine, make sure they are the same size or the pickerel will eat the bullhead.

Room temp will be fine for most natives. Just remeber a 55 gallon is still a 55 gallon. IMO a bullhead cat may get to big for one over time. Also, several sunnies may not tolerate each other in this size tank. Just be sensible and don't overstock it. Have fun, natives have just as much personality as any other fish out there.

Room temp is perfect for them. The bullhead will definetely out grow a 55gal after a couple of years. Unless its a yellow bullhead, they stay pretty small. Or you could go for a stream tank, with some shiners, daces, or chubs and some darters and a madtom. Thats what I would do If I had the space. Just take out your curent decorations and put a bunch of smooth rocks in the bottom, and maybe a couple branches. I think they're the coolest native tanks.
