Hey MFK, been while since I've posted here. Anyway i tore down my 120g african tank. I want to have a tank with big fish with big personality. My male lab was the closest to personal with me. Anyway i want some big fish in here.

How many do u think i can put in a 60x18x27 tank. i was thinking maybe 2-3 and a couple of smaller fish for contrast. Any suggestions would be great.

Also im not looking for anything specifc, just something that will take the food from my hand or recognize me from other people in the room. :naughty:

The good ol oscar has a great personality and you could probably keep some silver dollars and a pleco with him in that tank.

I have the same size tank and house a Midas, Jack Dempsey, 5 Silver dollars and a sailfin pleco. It works for me because I have got a very mild Midas who was raised with the other fish since he was young. He can still be a jerk at times!

This will help out to a certain degree. Realistically it will also depend on your filtration and maintenance routine as to actual stock numbers.

If it were me I would have only 1 large fish like an Oscar or Vieja synspilum as a focus fish. Then 5 silver dollars as dithers. The rest is up to you. Some dont like plecos and call them poop machines, so maybe a small catfish instead.

I would not add more than a single Oscar to a 120 gallon, especially if you are gonna add other fish. If you are looking for larger fish where you can keep 2-3 in a 120 gallon with other smaller fish, I would recommend Severums or Convicts (check out super red Severums). Maybe a male/female pair of Green Terrors as opposed to the last 2 kinds of fish I mentioned.

Depends on what your going for...

If you want a pair or a few of the same fish or 2-3 different large fish. Electric Blue Jack Dempseys are really cool looking and don't get too big as to where you could not have another two more fish of average size or a few of smaller size. Firemouths? Jewels? You could go a LOT of ways... what is your fav fish? Take your fav and build around him. Where in Ontario are you from? I'm from Niagara Falls, NY... I can hit Canada with a rock.

I'd personally go w/an Oscar, Severum, Firemouth & 3-4 SD's. That would give you a pretty good combo/contrast of personality, size, color & body shape. HEAVY bio-load so excellent filtration and water-change schedule would be needed though.

Thanks for the greast advice. My fav fish was a severum. I never owned one but it was the only fish tha caught my eye. I wanted to build around the sev. What if i did a severum, the firemouth and 4 SDs. Would that be ok? Also i wanted to add another big fish in there if i keep up with WC and filtration.

Btw i save up enough money to buy an eheim pro 3 filter. Any1 have any insight on it? My friend has one and his tank is spotless.

I was thinking about maybe a GT, jack dempsey or a uaru. Any suggestions?

Also to jiant, I live in Mississuaga Ontario, about an hour away form niagara falls lol:D

eheim pro 3 is a great filter they come in different sizes hope you got the bigger one. mississauga has lots of good fish stores to shop for livestock, you should do a tour of several u might find something that catches your eye that u werent thinking of.

Mississauga... I can not hit with a rock. The stock list you mentioned would be fine, but the GT or JD addition could be hit or miss. Another smaller type of cichlid and one of my fav's is a Salvini... check it out, but they can be pretty aggr though. GT, JD and Salvini could mix?
