i have had this jd (male) and ebjd (female) which i have been trying to breed,i have had the temperature moved up and down also did water changes, kept them on blood worms diet.. also tried bringing the ph from 7 to 8 and then again around 7.5(all dis over a period of two weeks)...still no results...the two looks like a pair to me as they are male female and keep moving around together always......what else can i do?

thnx!!

Over what period of time have you made all these changes? If you are creating too many changes, that is a big reason they won't spawn if they are a pair. They may not be a pair. There really isn't anything you can do outside of what you have done. Keep water parameters as stable as possible and hope for some action. If they haven't bred for you after 3 months, they either hate the water (doubtful as they have a very wide range of acceptable breeding conditions) or they aren't a pair. After 3 months, try introducing another potential mate for the electric.

the changes are done over a period of 2 weeks.......my only concern is am i missing on something???

If you did all those changes in just 2 weeks, that only stressed them out more. In fish keeping, it is ALWAYS more important to have stability rather than natural environment conditions. When you mess with water chemistry, you create the opportunity for the environment to crash from what you have made it back to what it was. These crashes can be lethal, so it isn't hard to imagine they would make fish think again about breeding.

JDs will breed in a wide range of water conditions. Focus on keeping the water stable and if they have not bred for you in 3 months time, swap one out for another potential mate. Always be prepared for aggression with a divider or moving a fish to another tank though.

And no, you haven't really missed anything. There isn't really anything condition-wise that triggers breeding in jacks. The best thing you can do is keep them on a high protein diet (this will also increase aggression a bit, so be prepared for that). Feed a good high protein pellet in the morning and keep up with the frozen bloodworms at night. You can also substitute cut up earthworm for the bloodworms (don't get them from outside your house unless you know of a location at least 1/2 a mile away from any roads that you are 100% positive is not treated with pesticides. It's best to just buy the worms from a bait shop because they have to abide by those rules).

Live worms works great...I dont use earthworms cause I cant find them but I do feed them live tubifex worms...I went thru 3 different females before my male ebjd finally did the do last week and one of them ate the eggs so im back to square 1...I agree with the above statements dont mess with the water too much but what I do is when I do water changes I replace the water with a slightly cooler temperature, that usually works for me with all my fish...and remember to put plenty of flower pots or slate rocks in there so they have something to lay eggs on
