i want to get my son a turtle while he is out visiting his grand parents,
i have kept turtles and lizzards in the past so i know a fair bit. but what type of turtle would be good for a 35 to 55 gallon tank for a good portion of life. something different from red ears, maps, and if you could post your experiance with them

Im no turtle expert but I would say stinkpots would be good

stinkpots are awesome for a 55g.
but thats basically it.

Im pretty sure that as far as most turtles go the males have a smaller adult size,so
keep that in mind.

An african sidenecked turtle will grow a little too big for a 55. But you can look out for florida mud turtles or stinkpots, those should have a great life in a tank of this size. You could also go for a male map turtle. Black knobbeds are really colorful and the males hardly exceed 3,5 inches. But keep in mind that basking species will need better lighting than mud turtles!

Dont forget that you likely will have to take the allmost full responsability of caring for the turt
