I just bought a 55 gallon tank and I figure I need to have a 150-200 watt heater. What brands do you guys recommend? Do you have a preference for any type pf heater? I've heard that Eheim is a good brand, as is Marineland and Rena..

What do you guys think?

Any of those choices are fine. i like marineland cause there cheaper and last for ever. And i would get 2-300 watts. I have allways heard 3-5 watts per gallon is a good amount with some cushion added. You do not want a small heater that has to run constantly. Cause it will fail sooner.

Get a Ebo jager 150 watt heater for your 55

i third stealth, i've had problems with ever other type of heater other than them..

out of my 3 marineland deluxe, 1 failed and cooked my fish

my 1 rena cal top light never failed and seems well made compared to the marinelands, i would definitely recommend this but i believe it's discontinued now and replaced by the rena smartheaters

my 1 hagen aquaclear heater never failed either

thats triple what he needs. I've got a 200 watt on a 75, it works fine. Getting 2 makes sense only if they are smaller than what he needs. If one small heater gets stuck on, it will take a lot longer to fry the fish.
