I was going to set up a african biotype tank, with some african cichlids and i wanted no what would you guys put in ther, i wanted to set up either a small or large community of fish so let me no.

and also with the biotype, ill be having some polys in there prolly just a few sens and maybe a delhezi or something

Well, try to narrow it down a little more...What colors do you like? I'm not sure how the other fish you mentioned would do with africans and their type water parameters but I'm sure others can help with that.

As long as you keep just africans or specialize in a particular lake there really are no limits to what kinds of africans you can choose with the exception of the very largest of species . Just be sure to match temperments and dietary needs if mixing species.

You can do :

Most commonly found Malawi setups :

Malawi Mbuna (highly colored , highly aggressive rock dwelling cichlids)

Malawi Haps (Larger cichlids, Stunning male colors, active swimmers)

Malawi peacocks (Medium sized, highly colored males , flashy spawning, active swimmers)

Malawi Mixed Hap and Peacock (Go all males, super active , gorgeous colors, super active tanks) Its not a good idea to mix in mbuna here)

Malawi species only breeding colonies of your choice (too many to list)

lake Tang setups :
Tang shellies (interesting often colorful tiny fish that live in shells)

Tropheus (Larger and aggressive , species only and if your aexperienced cichlid keeper)

Brichardi (Small to medium size, species only breeding colony, do not mix with other species ever)

Various other tang setups/species too many to list

Im sorry , i am least familiar with these species but have seen gorgeous highly colored cichlids of all sizes and temperments posted here and elsewhere. Not 100 percent sure but i think they might be harder to get or rarer in general with a few species common in some shops.

That would likely work fine for the haps and peacocks , just a note though : i have never kept the senegal birchir before. What kind of temperment (can they defend themselves when needed with out being too aggressive ) and what size do they get (will they eat the peacocks later most peacocks get 5-7 inches as adults) ? As long as all of them will do ok with the same food and the birchirs dont need any special water conditions and dont mind active company...

ah i believe that sens dont need any specific water and i dont think a sen at full size(10", 12"MAX) could take down a 5-7" peacock
