I just started up a 10 gallon with Fluorite and am letting it cycle... In the mean time I would like to know what type of bulb I should get? Any suggestions please? I have a perfecto lid on it is there anything I can put in it to do the job or do I need a whole different top all together?

Also, any suggestions for plants for a first timer with a planted tank? If I get the hang of it, my 150 will be a watery jungle...

Since you want some easy plants I would say some Vallisneria sp. of some sort (I have them every where in my tank), a amazon sword plant or two Echinodorus amazonicus and some pygmy chain swords Echinodorus tenellus, a nice clump of java fern Microsorum pteropus (you can grow it on a piece of drift wood if you want), and a few of an anubias of some sort Anubias sp. (also grows on wood). Of course you don't have to use all of the plants I suggested and there are a lot more tho chose from but I'm just naming a few easier ones. Good luck with the tank.:)

Do not get an amazon sword. I also would recommend against the java fern. Currently you have a low light setup, so cryptocorynes, anubias, and java moss would be your best bet. If you did want to use java fern, it needs to be rooted to a piece of wood, otherwise it will slowly die. The rhizome in java ferns needs to be exposed to water.

What about my lighting situation? I would like to upgrade it but dont have a clue as to what I need. This is a practice tank... Want to see what needs to be done before I attempt it on a larger scale.

Can I just upgrade the lightbulb or do I need a different lighting setup all together?

Thanks for the advice on the plants though.

I definitely want to be able to grow more than low light plants, so I'll need to upgrade my lighting... but, what do I buy, make, yadda yadda yadda...

I really dont have a clue about this, but im really interested in learning. Can you make some suggestions as to what I can buy or what I need to look into for making a new lighting system?
