Macrognathus zebrinus

similar looking to zig zags, not sure if there is a common name for them or if they get mixed up as zig zags all the time.

Yup ^^ looks like the Zebra Spiny Eel to me. Could go to just under 20" if your tank is big enough. For sure not a yoyo loach  what did you pay for it?

Most spiny eels (sans TT and fire) remain like... tiny in captivity. Under ten inches. Not sure where the maximum sizes come from.

[At the Shedd they have a huge spiny eal, truly a gorgous fish. I suppose that would be unusual in home aquaria. Does it take a longer time for them to reach full size than other commen fish (cichlids, arowanas, etc.)?ATTACH]584895[/ATTACH]

^ That's a fire eel, one of the few species that actually get HUGE in captivity as well as the wild.
