First of all. I'm new to FH's and have been researching and finding out what type I want. I really like how friendly they are and wanted to get one for my kids. Originally I wanted to get some fancy looking one with bright colors like this one but it was a bit out of my price range. They wanted $400 for this one. Can someone tell me what kind this one is?

Then I went to another LFS and saw this one. I felt sorry for it because it was in a tiny sectioned off aquarium where he could barely move. He's about 7-8" long and they want $50 for him. Can anyone tell me what type of FH he is and if it's a fair price? He's not fancy looking but I kind of want to rescue him. Thanks!

The first one is called a red dragon, the other one is a kamfa. $50 is a fair price for a 7-8" FH, but if you prefer rd's I would recommend picking up some $10 fry from a breeder. Depending on the parents they could turn out even nicer than that (overpriced) $400 one in less than a year

I agree with this guy. It is a lot more fun to watch them grow as well. Since they are hybrids they grow really fast and your kids will enjoy that too. I bought ten RD fry and now have one that may even be better than that $400 one. The second one would prob be a good buy, I think it will really color up with some care. Tank its in looks dark and dirty and that will reflect their look.

Hey guys thanks for the input. I thought that first one seemed overpriced. Buying fry seems like a good idea. That way the kids can watch them grow and develop and probably grow more attached to it. As for the 2nd one of the kamfa I'm sure it'll look better in another well maintained tank. The tank it was in was dingy with poor circulation. Thanks again. I really appreciate the info.
