Alright so I've kept and bred many different species of medium and large CA and SA cichlids over the years...but I've never kept a Flowerhorn...my local petsmart started carrying FH's and since then I've been keeping a close eye and what FH
s come in and if any are nice looking...Well i was in there yesterday and one really caught my eye. It had quite and attitude too, i put my finger over the surface of the water in the tank and it leaped up and bit me twice, and was flaring its gills at the employee lol. I just had to snag it. Now, i don't know to much at all about the different types of FH's out there...only recently have i really started to gain a lot of interest in them. I've heard that FH's at Petsmart are "low-grade" ..whats that mean? I'm not sure if this is what will happen but i like flowerhorns when they have a smaller hump, or "hard kok" lol. A hump that grows a nice size in proportion to the body of the fish. I don't really like the FH's that have massive humps. i've seen some that the humps are so big it impairs the fish's ability to swim properly! So here are some pics, let me know what type it is if you can and if its a low grade FH and how big i should expect the nuchal hump to grow. (i know many factors play into the size of the hump so i'll give you some more info...right now this little guy is in a 29 gallon quarentine tank, he will be moved into one of my larger 75 gallon tanks and be kept ALONE. his diet will consist of hikari cichlid gold pellets, frozen krill, and bloodworms.)
Thanks!CIMG2815.JPG

Cool thanks! so this is a pretty good find (for petsmart at least)? with the type that he is, is he expected to grow a rather large hump? And will his coloration and pattern stay pretty much the same as he matures? Because ive seen some FH's that completely change their appearance once they are adults

I say its a good looking one for petsmart mine aren't so great I've been looking for a pearling one like that care to trade? Lol

ZZ flowerhorns are known to develop quite large muchal humps. I've had several of them. Like the one you have, I love them for their color & pearls...not so much for their big noggin. Good luck raising it.

okay we'll see what happens after he gets a bit older. Whats the deal with Kamfa FH's? petsmart has one of those sometimes, most of the kamfas ive seen have pretty huge humps, and shorter bodies than the ZZ's
