I have a visitherm 300 watt in my 125 gal. I noticed it has water on the inside so i need to replace it. What should i use? I have two rays in there and the old one has a guard on it, but i can't get the temp past 80. Do i need more watts or a better type of heater? keep in mind i have to have some kind of guard on it for the rays and I only have emperror 400s on the tank. I would like to get the temp higher and i would like it to be protected. Thanks in advance for the help!!!

go with 2 heaters atleast, one on each end. i like the visatherms myself, but there are alot of good ones out there, just go with 2 that are 200 or 250 watts a piece, or i guess you could do 2 300's.

the best heater ive had in my experience
is neptune
ive had alot of problems with the brand hydor
the heaters quit working completely or they get too hot and never kick off

you should have 3-5 watts per gallon, you should have more than 300 watts, that's why you can't get it past 80, since your visitherm was broken somehow a more durable heater is needed, visitherm stealth and ebo jager heaters are good, i agree with 2 heaters, 2x 250 or 300 watt heaters would do

i use 2 jager ebo 250 w from eheim:thumbsup:. And they're cheap $19 each. Both of them are in my sump, so my fishes wont get any heater burns.

I use Won Bros titaniums or Stealths. One on each side for the 6ft tanks.

I agree with most of the replies. 1 heater at each end of the tank is a good idea (a couple of 250w heaters would be perfect). I have used the Won titaniums for about 4 years and have not had any trouble with them (once you get the controller right, mine are all about 4 degrees off). I just recently installed a stealth in one of my tanks (because it blends in so well with the black background) and it is working great also. You should be able to make a guard for just about any heater out there without to much trouble.
