I have a 125gal tank that im looking to put a small shoal of piranha in but i dont know what to put in it. I want to put approx. 3 to 5 piranha in the tank and i was thinking about pirayas. I have had 5 rbp together and an elong solo before but have never had any expensive piranha before. What are some opinions on what i should put in a 125?

thanks

Hey,

Well if you want expensive piranha get some cariba or piraya when in season or even super reds look nice. I would stick with 5-6 as those get pretty big as adults. If you go reds then i would start with 7-8. Good luck.

Payara would work if it was a shoal of scombs or maybe a red tail tat or two. A black rhom would be cool but tankmates might be limited.

if you want to do a shoal then go with cariba, piraya is nice but they are very cannibalistic in compare to other pygos. and they can quickly out grown the 125g.
if you want to do a solo then any large serra will do, with 125g anything around 10" or less should be suitable. bigger ones would require a wider tank.
you can also consider doing a S. Geryi shoal if you think you are up to the challenger, it's not really for the inexperienced keepers tho.

Thanks guys. I would love to have a shoal of geryi. What is challenging about having a shoal of them. I live not too far from Shark Aquarium and i have always drooled over their 125gal with large geryis. Could i keep 2 to 3 of them?

I wouldn't get just 2 geryi, 3 or more would be good but as mentioned they can be aggressive towards each other so just keep an eye on them if you do decided to go that route.

I would love to get a few geryis. I have a few pieces of driftwood in the tank do I need to put fake plants in there so they can somewhat hide from each other of things get a little wild
