i was told by the lfs guy that this is a sailfin pleco but on the side of the tank it said common pleco, and i went along with what ever he was saying which was completely ridiculous he reckons that it will grow to 20-30 inches and things like this, so i thought id ask fellow members there opinions and facts on this guy, here he is.

Do you have a better picture of the pattern?

If it's a regular jaguar type spotting pattern and the colours are more along the lines of brown and gold, then it's a sailfin. If the patterns change along the length of the fish, and the colour's more of a grey, then it's a common.

The guy's not sh*tting you. Those things do get big. Maybe not 30" in an aquarium, but definitely up to 20".

They're relatively tolerant in terms of water quality, but do bear in mind that they are a big bioload. They require quite a lot of vegetable matter in order to stay happy. I reccomend zucchini.

Definitely a common, not a sailfin. It will still get massive.

$160 is a bit expensive for that even in Australia, I wouldn't be paying much more than $100 for that fish.
