Can anyone tell me what type of puffer this is? They didn't have the name posted at the LFS when I bought him, and I have no clue. He is cute though and about 2.5-3" long right now. Thank you!

Green Spotted Puffer. Is it in saltwater right now?
LOL - I should have known it would be something easy like that - its green and has spots :) and yes he is in salt water. By you asking that it makes me wonder, it is a salt water fish right? I've had it now since the middle of Oct and he/she/it is doing fine. He can be a little piggy too! When he gets fed it almost looks as if he's pregnant - LOL!

They are mainly found in blackish water but are known to live in sw also. Someone who knows these better then me can elaborate more about it.

So how big does a green spotten puffer get? I have a 55g that he's in right now... will I have an excuse in a couple years to get a larger tank?

I always see them in Saltwater at the more reputable pet store that I go to. They tell me they eventually go salt as well as Columbian Sharks, Monos, and Scats. I see all these fish in their salt tanks. GSP averages about 6"

Ok... 6" sounds like a good size for a 55g... the only other occupant at this time is a zebra eel... he is maybe as big around as a pencil and a half again as long. That is going to be it for while. (at least that's what I say now - :D)

gsp's grow pretty slow and do well in salt mines been in full marine for over a year now he's in w/ a hard spine, stars+stripes, picasso trigger, and two eels

yeah, i preffer to start them out at brackish levels first and then raise slowly as the fish matures, but as long as hes eating and not doing anything weird, im thinking he'll be fine where hes at now. nice pick up BTW
