howdy all,
i have a galvanized trough i will be using for my rays. its 6'L x 3'w x 2'h. i have a pond liner in it. filter is a fluval fx5 w/ an inline heater. my friend has kept a stingway before and he used home depot play sand for the substrate. is this recommended or can you suggest another type of sand to use? please provide the brand and where to get it.

You can also use pool filter sand. I'm currently using the all-purpose sand from home depot.

i'm currently using the home depot sand and fx5 filter.my tank is 30" high and the intakes are about 6" from the top. I'm constantly getting sand in my filters I also have a sump with the intake at the surface and it gets sand in it also. I'll be switching substrates when my new tank is setup. Also not sure if metal affects rays like sharks. Someone with more knowledge will have to answer that one? Trough may be a bad idea.

silica sand, It is really clean out of the bag, and quite cheap.

David said that estes is coated, so that's why it is okay.
