Hello Everyone,

I am thinking about buying a 130 gallon with sump holes drilled in the bottom. The problem is, I don't know what type of set up I need. He said it an old set up. Please see pictures. I appreciate any input. He wants 130 for it with a 60 gallon sump tank. Think its worth it?

I appreciate the help.

Ian

Looks like it's set up with a center overflow so the tank can be viewed from all 4 sides of the aquarium. Kind of odd, usually only see this in larger square tanks like 4'x4' tanks or bigger. The overflow looks like a unique/custom bean animal with 1 fully submerged return pump that does most of the work (1" diameter bulkhead) and secondary return near the waterline that skims the surface water back to the return. The 3rd return in the corner looks like it's for emergency only.

You can use that setup as-is, you'd just need to add PVC pipes to the 2 larger bulkheads that go directly into the sump with a filter sock to start your sump filtration. The 3rd/emergency return will need a PVC pipe also but that usually ends a few inches above the waterline in the sump so if it is used, it creates an audible splashing sound to warn you something is wrong and needs to be fixed.

$130 for a 130g tank + sump + bare stand is a good price.

Hey D,

Thanks for the feedback. Yea, the guy who is selling it to me told me the system was an old one thats not used anymore. I haven't seen anything with three valves so I figured I would ask. I thought it being in the center was kind of strange as well. Thanks again for the answer.

Big bulkhead is drain, smaller is return. The small square in the corner is for running things like heater cords or airlines through

OOOOOOOO lmao ok I was wondering. I was like man what the hell is the other hole for.
