U.K
setting up a 400 uk gallon tank for rays, what size air pump should i go for?
needs to be big enough to drive 2 or 3 bubble disks in the main tank and a couple in the sump to move a k3 moving bed.

Do the have the ecoplus commercial air pumps over there? They have allot of air flow and are powerful. Try amazon

jehmco has good, quiet pumps, I don't know what the shipping would be like for the UK though...

you could probably get away with just using them to move the k3 and not have any disks in the tank, that's what I do. I figure the water is getting aerated from splashing into the sump and the stones powering my k3 chamber. pretty sure mine is the 15 liter per minute and it pushes the k3 just fine with 2 big airstones.

I use the kockney koi pond air pump jimbarry, if I remember right think its the 50l model been running 6 air disc for a few months with ease

The more important question here would be how many watts are you willing to devote to an air pump? Might make finding one a little easier. Obviously there's a point where it's just too much. Since you pay this every month it's definetly something to consider in the long run.

If you're moving K-anything in the sump the more air the merrier. I run a Pondmaster Ap 100 to my K1 filled reactors and each of the 2 reactors runs 8-10 airstones. Plan on rebuilding the pump each year but parts are cheap. This pump is the best bang for your buck when compared to any other air pump I've looked at.

You tube Mike's (H20) moving bed filter...... That whole thing is ran with an AP100 pump. Should be more then plenty, and the noise is quieter then the luft pump I use to run the bubble disks in the tank. (Coral life super luft 65)

I have a 9l\m and it works just fine with 2 stones. I have not bubble disks at this moment, but they will come soon, and im curious myselfe how it will work.
