I feed all kinds of vegetables to my plecos. I have several different species.
I also have a mixed South American tank with some Geos and Severum along with some Electric blue Acara and clown loaches.

Today my wife was making her spinach artichoke dip.
So I got the left over chopped spinach (organic, frozen green giant)
I thought I would just see if the fish like it.
Turns out everything ate it.
Even the loaches and Geo winemilleri came up and took some from my hand.
The Severum went crazy for it.

I assume it’s okay to feed some on occasion especially to the veggie lovers.
I’m thinking I may add this to my rotation.
Does anybody think this could be a problem for any reason?
I can’t see why it wouldn’t be ok to offer it in the mix of other things I feed.

I have and still do feed spinach, kale, red romaine and green leaf lettuce. I have seen no ill effects. Most of my fish I had that would eat leafy greens are no longer with me, although my shellies will as will my synodontis and bn plecos and obviously my feeder snails and crayfish.

I’ve never thought to use frozen chopped spinach before.
I don’t know why it’s just never occurred to me.
I see the clown loaches and Severum eating off the zucchini with my plecos all the time.
I offer green beans also some but most of my fish will eat them they act like it’s not their favorite.
They went nuts for the Spinach.

I used to feed various veggies to my fish, and they loved them, no question. But a few hours later my mech side would be full of green sludge which they'd shat out. Although the veggies were well received by the fish I began questioning the real benefits, if any, from feeding terrestrial based plant matter to my fish. I very rarely feed veggies now and just rely on algae and seaweed based wafers to give them their "green" fix. My filters don't get clogged up either.

In short, ime fish seem to digest/process/absorb aquatic based plant matter better than terrestrial.

I can see this being the case.
I used to buy dried Nori wraps for sushi when I did saltwater (it’s a lot cheaper than the algae sheets marketed for fish food)
I may try that for the Severum some time.

I feed everything in moderation. I feed a variety of things. So when I do feed spinach again it will just be a small portion of their total diet.
I think variety is the key to healthy fish feeding.

There are certain species of primarily vegetarian fish that are adapted to eating terrestrial plants.
Cichlids like Cincelichthys pearsei and bocourti, and Etroplus have longer digestive tracts than most, and some such as Vieja are known to eat fallen fruit and seeds in nature.

I've even noticed certain marine fish eating leaves from trees

In a brackish bay in the Yucatan these marine species would show up every morning to graze on the overhanging leaves of a certain tree.

and Vieja maculacauda are known to swim into the ocean to graze of marine algae.so for many of my cichlids, I'll feed a salt water fish pellet high in marine algae content.

Thanks for the link . I hadn’t seen that thread interesting read. Possibly sticky worthy IMO.
Did you receive the nutritional book?
What’s your opinion on it?

Agree, the thread has some great content in it.

I got the book, I look up info in it as I have questions but I haven't read it front to back. It is pretty good though, summaries a lot of research very well.
