In the fish section LOL
Ok, so I go to pick up my first ever dat on friday night. My tank is all ready all water parameters are perfect and tempature is around 78* I head over to the pet store and see the two dats they got in for me. I take the one that is slightly bigger and more active. On the way home he seems very stable all bars are still there and he is activly trying to get out of the bag. When i got home i started to aclimate him first leaving him floating with NO WATER FROM MY TANK just to get used to temparture. i went to put water from my tank into the bag and my dat is sitting there DEAD. What went wrong? By the way the lfs tank temp was 78* too. So what went wrong was their water chemicaly unbalenced?

some time dats play dead after transfer them. It's normal when you first introduce them in the tank.

The dat are stable at LFS doesn't mean he will get stable in your tank. It will take some time.

:confused:Didnt he say that the dat was dead as in dead ,that's a mystery did he even taste your water .Did they get cold in the car long drive?

oh sorry...i though the dat play dead....yea check your water or something happen bad that you didn't know about.

What ype of Dat was it? Thin Bars are very prone to SDS Sudden Death Syndrome especially if its a young fish. The last time I had a 3" NTT it was fine fora week, feeding, good colour, active and then within 7 days it was dead and all the other fish were fine.

I've also found that Deninsoni Barbs (Red Line Torpedo Barbs) are very prone to keeling over especially in transit, they just die!

Would you consider Dats to be very sensitive fish?? Had a stable Indo Dat at about 1,5" which died for apparantly no reason after 2 weeks in my tank.... I'm considering buying a new one... but if they are very sensitive I'd rather not since they are also pretty expensive fish here in Denmark...

regards,
Peter

How long was the ride home?

How long was he sitting in the bag in your water?
Did they pump pure oxygen in the bag?
Did you leave your light on when it was floating at the top of your tank?

It is bound to get a colder on the way home, and if you kep the lights on it probably got warmer then the rest of your tank water. The jumps in temperature could have stressed the fish.

Also if it was in the bag for a long time and oxygen wasn't used, it could have sufficated.
