I currently have 2 florida gar and a tsn in a 180gal, and am working on my build of a custom tank. I want to now what width i need so the gar have enough room to turn around with out problems. One is about 8 inches and the other is about 5-6 atm. If i build a 84Lx40Wx28T will that be enough or shall i go a bit wider. I have the 6ft 1/2 glass alrdy i just dont want to go to wide if that wont hold up the pressure. Also im a bit unsure how i want to do my filtration because ive always had HOB filters. Any input would be helpful.

Width wise you need to give them 1.5x their adult length if you can. That means at least 6'. I am sure others on here would tell you that you don't need that much, but you have some fish that will be over 4' and may be 5. At 40" width adult FLGars are going to have a tight turn. Just figure out the absolute biggest tank you can build and then do it.

i would think 40" width is enough. tsns dont get that big.... or do they ?
i thought they get about 30" i could be wrong
but idk about filtration
i would say a big sump would be best, i just got one for my 120 and i love it

Tsn's get a pretty good size. If i need to go 1.5X there aldult size than were can i find a calculation on how thick my glass needs to be, or will my 1/2 piece be thick enough. At that width i think it should be bigger but i dont know.
