I have 3 fancy goldfish that have been in a 5g tank since Aug.
What would be more stressfull for them , staying in the 5g or cycling in the 55g?

To do a fishless cycle I can add some gravel from their current tank so they dont have to deal with the stress of cycling.

If I do cycle with them in the tank should I still add graval from the old tank. Would that lower the risk of NTS?

If you put the filter from the tank they are in now on the big tank and run it in tandem with the new filter,no cycling worries

I just got off the phone with my local pet store. They said they have a product called cycle that will speed up the process. Wich wil take a day. Shlud I try that. Has anyone had any lucky with a product like this?

The old 5g has an UGF so should I just add the gravel?

I would add the gravel only if that is what you want for the substrate. I wouldn't personally use cycle, I have never had success with it. However, I have had quite a bit of success with bio-spira.

Cheap, maybe a week or less to cycle. try your lfs store or look online.

It will take more than a day, Cycle doesn't have a lot of bacteria in it because it doesn't stay stable like bio-spira does. I would add all of the gravel into a media bag and put that in your new filter and add some Bio-Spira and you should be fine.

I put them in the 55g. I am going to get bio spira first thing in the morn..would have done it today but car has a flat:irked: I added the gravel from the old tank. My snail was such a pain to come off. I had to tap him for 2 mins stright and slide him around. I was so afried I was going to hurt him. He seems to be liking the new tak. This is the first time I have seen his whole foot(or what ever its called. The fish are moving out more and more. I guess they dont know what to do with all the space.
