So, I'm moving at the end of the month. It will be on the third floor of an older, but well maintained apt building. I am looking to do some tank upgrades. With all that said, and without any more details, whats the general opinion on what a floor like that could hold? Without a secured, concrete floor under it? I want as big a tank as possible without concern. Clearly, plenty of household appliances aren't light either......opinions?

honestly u are asking a question that reasonably can not be answered. i would play it safe and not put anything that would weigh more that 350 lbs

Find out if there are any restrictions first. A lot of apartment buildings won't allow you to have tanks over a certain size, in case they break. Then try to find out how the building was constructed. But no matter what, put the tank across as many joists as you can.

I agree. You face a difficult path to really find out for sure. You could always just get renters insurance and just risk it (after ensuring that your policy will cover any accidents).
