i had a light that was an old school t12 single bulb, and got a triple bulb t8 for free but the diff. is obviously night and day. but are there neg. to having too much light? should i still stick to 8 hrs of light a day or cut it back?

8HRS A DAY SHOULD BE FINE I TURN ON MY LIGHTS WHEN I GO TO SLEEP JUST TO HAVE SOME LIGHT AROUND THE HOUSE

What size tank? How deep? How long are the tubes? How many watts?

DON'T KNOW THE WATTAGE ON MINE BUT I RUN A 36" BULB ON A 60 GAL AND IT WORKS FINE NO PROBS AT ALL

Depends what fishes. I did a bit of research and it says Blood parrots shouldnt have too much light because it fades their colour.

That's been my experience with all of my orange fish (BPs, Midas, SRT). Their color is most vivid when I turn the lights on in the morning, then it fades a lot throughout the day. :(
