This seems like a really novice question, thats because im 15 and frankly have no clue on which wood is strong and is not :WHOA: I have a 4 ft long desk that i have a 4x2x2 on atm and i want a 6x2x2, so i was wondering what wood i need and also if anyone has built anything like this size, what is the cost for the wood? I'm not sure wether to built a whole new stand or just a 2 foot ad on to the desk, By the way the desk is a fairly old, aka well built, desk which is soppurted by 6 1.5x1.5's :naughty:

Buy some 2x4's...seen a lot of people on here make stands with them, you should need about 12 of them

Or I would just look on craigslist and see if there are any decent stands for cheap

use 2x4s for the frame and for the outside and doors use oak plywood or whatever plywood u like and then stain and poly your choice

2x4's and deck screws was about $20 to build a stand for a 4'x18" so id imagine around $40 or so for yours. You can get it all cut to size at home depot and then just take it home and assemble it. It was really quite easy to build one I also found a C clamp really helped out alot.

thanks, im from england. you see wood is ALOT more expensive here, in fact, everything is :/, and to build a decent stand i can imagine me easily going in to a DIY store and spending $150.

Concrete blocks and some 2x4s. My stand of choice until recently.
