Probably the Poly section
i see this dark rooty looking wood in a lot of you discus and angel tanks. what is it? i really like the look of it

I know what your talking about im just not sure if its malaysian for sure or not, its just a guess. I dont like using driftwood because i dont like keeping plecos to keep it clean.

thats manzanita. a very hard wood that will last for many years. I have loads of it in my discus tank. my pleco acts like he is in heaven.

sweet! i can get manzanita at my lrs. they sell it for bird cages because it is too hard for the parrots to strip the bark off of.

i use melaleuca (Melaleuca quinquenervia) roots and rootballs in my SA tanks
dont know if you can get it over there tho, apparently tho it is an invasive species over your way.
this is what it looks like

it leaches a fair bit of tannins so if you have soft water fish its really good for them

a lot of guys use the manzanita, there are a couple guys on here (especially manzanitaman) who sell some really nice pieces for very reasonable prices. Ebay also has some good stuff

as for my tank ( http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?422049-NEW-Discus-Tank ) the big stump is right out of a local woods here in central ohio. it is obviously too big to boil, so I cleaned it as best as i could for debris, and then poured a bunch of boiling water over it to kill as much as possible. Then i tossed it out in my outdoor pond for a month or two just so i could keep an eye on it, and then cleaned and boiled it again and put it in my aquarium.

it made my water fairly cloudy, so i added a good amount of carbon to just one of my emperor 400s, and it took care of that very quickly
