Excuse my pun there, I have a large piece of bogood ready for my tank but i want to put thin branches in going top to bottom, and as the thread says what wood would be ok and how do i prepare it.

I'd stick to thin pieces of driftwood for the branch look. Are you talking about using branches that aren't already "cured" like driftwood is?

yeah i was, was thinking of collecting them myself?

I don't have any experience with that but I don't think it would be a very good idea. The branches will surely rot and foul your water. Maybe someone else has more to say on this?

i was always told this could be done with beech branches but cant find many beech trees near me so wanted advice on what to with them if i find any or what wood i could use instead.

how big is the tank? i think that the braches that they sell for birds are Ok to use on aquariums, the really rich reddish-brown ones. i think.

also about the title, it's more alliteration than pun

been told if you cut oak or beech in winter when no sap is rising it will be fine, what does anyone think

You evidently really want to try adding these branches so just go for it. I'd definitely only use hardwood though and I'd try to boil them or at least soak them in very hot water for a while to try and kill bacteria and to remove some of the sap and tannins. I'd also be sure to try and get the wood from somewhere you can be sure is free from heavy pollution or pesticides. Keep in mind also that the wood will most likely stain your water for quite a while and it may also lower your pH. I'm interested in knowing how it turns out so you may want to post an update on your progress periodically. Post some pictures when you get it set up too. Good luck!!
