I am making some changes to my 150g, and thinning out some stock.
What would be a good asking price for a 4" female HRP and a 3"+ rainbow?

Just before I moved to Panama I sold a bunch of similar sized spawning pairs of multispinossa for $5 each, and some slightly smaller HRPs for $2.
But I was in a hurry.

Thanks Duane. I know these are fairly common fish that breed very easily. I'm not in a huge hurry though. Adult cichlids are usually worth more.
I had bought an Oscar for $5 then sold him for $36 to a LFS at 13". There are LFS that would take them as donations or possibly trade. But I'm not looking to add any cichlids at this point. Another option is possibly try to trade them for some livebarers.

The problem will be convincing anyone who's not a diehard aquarist that an HRP is any different than that $0.99 Convict in the pet store.

This is true, actually I saw someone giving away convict fry on FB. But for those who would want a grown HRP might want her. The LFS near me has 2" ones for $10.

I'd give you 15$ for the rainbow it's real pretty maybe even 20$

It is really hard to put a valid price tag on them, in my experience. A few years ago, rainbows were flooded in our local club. You couldn't give away adult breeding pairs. Now, they aren't as available and you could probably get $10 or $15 for adults. At a LFS, if your fish are big and colorful, you may be able to get decent money on a trade in. Colorful fish sell to the general public.

At my Lfs it doesn't matter if it's rare, colorful or what. They only give you a quarter for what they sell it for. I find if you're patient someone will come around and may be willing to pay what you're asking. I guess the price really depends on what's selling around your town

I'm not sure what the demand is like in my area. A few LFS went out of business leaving chain stores, and the place I got these two.
I don't see many cichlids for sale privately. But I guess it should be easier to sell small fish vs big ones theoretically.
