Have a 29G semi planted tank that had 6 Amano Shrimp, 3 Cherry Shrimp, 4 Zebra Nerite Snails, 3 Bronze Cory, 2 Albino Bristlenose Plecos, about 10 Guppies, 2 Hornwort Plants, 2 Anubias Plants, 1 Sword Plant and 1 Water Onion Plant. Came home yesterday to find all my Amano Shrimp dead ... At first didn't think nothing much (first three were my adults - 3 yrs old) but then I saw the 3 smaller ones I picked up just the other day. Only the Amano's are dead, ... Everything else seems okay.
Was wondering if anyone has any idea what may have happened ... thought I read somewhere once about Amano shrimp having a weakness/vulnerability to something .... but for the life of me I can't remember what.

I've always kept my tanks at 78 F ... haven't had any problems before, even when I had no clue what I was doing.

If its staying at 78 max, then temp shouldnt be the problem, but if it rises any higher and your ammano shrimp may have been cooked...

Whats the parameters like?

Haven't had time to check the full parameters of said tank .... pretty busy week. Was going off the basis that everything else seems okay ... figured if something was way off, I'd see signs in something other than the Amano Shrimp. It just has me puzzled, as I said never had a problem before with my shrimp ... to lose 6 in one day was odd. I might end up lowering the temp in the tank a bit just in case, but I keep 2 thermometers in my tanks ... just to be safe. I'm aware about the 80F limit for the amano, and who knows maybe my wife had the window closed in the day and the heat in the house went up a bit (I'll have to ask her).
But thanks Fat Homer, you've got my mind working again ... but it is puzzling I must admit.

I'm guessing its most likely some how a temperature swing that may have caused the problem, since i find that amano's seem to be in a way even more sensitive to temps than even Crystal Red Shrimp, since in one of my tanks, i had sudden die offs of my amano's when the temp got a little too warm, but the rest of my shrimp and fish were all fine...

Glad I stumbled upon this thread... I seem to be short a few Amanos myself, but last week had the temp up to 85 for an ick problem, didn't know about their sensitivity to temp...
Now I know for future reference.

^ I mean there are other possibilities too... but normally, i tend to rule out the possibility of over-heating first, since at least for me living in Asia, heat is probably the biggest problem i have to deal with when it comes to my tanks since i can't run a chillers on all of them...

Thinking the same now Fat Homer ... my wife had the door to the room closed for a bit today, probably raised temp a bit. In the Canadian prairies it can be warmer than +38 Celsius (100 F) or colder than -40 Celsuis (-40F), depends on the time of year. And the older Amano's did survive a heat spike earlier this year come to think of it, and the younger ones I'd just gotten the other day.
As you said could be many things ... but chances are heat spike after what I know now.
Thanks Fat Homer

^ No worries... just happy to have helped :)
