What is the best way to catch some catfish? Right now I'm leavin a 3 inch blue gill on a hook in the middle of my pond overnight and checking it on the morning, hoping to catch bass or cats. Maybe even a snapping turtke to keep in the pnd for a little bit before i get important fish

I always had really good luck fishing with a big fat juicy night crawler about midnight over a muddy bottom

i would not recommend leaving it over night..if you get a fish and its failing...your going to stress or damage the fish, or it will be eaten bu a snapping turtle...

better yet what if any of what you are catching swallows the hook?

Kaosu raises a good point best to take the time to do the collecting in person. As I suggested before midnight works well.

second the shrimp idea, chicken liver, nightcrawler, i got all three of mine perfect aquarium size with a minnow trap and some dog biscuits

It's baited with a big piece of raw bacon, it's storming right now so
i can't undo it, I've caught about 5 snappers like this, my best was 3 in one day

i grew up fishin in brown county IN. every night id take 100 pound test line and a 3 ounce lead and just tie the line to my seawall. have a line every 5 feet and through it out. id just use bluegill about 4-6 inches long and throw em out there over night. id always catch softshells and cats. i got a 65 pound alligator snapper once. he was huge!! also a 38 pound flathead :) i was even lucky enough to catch a 8 pound viper (striped bass).

good luck

if u want small just go out at sunset with the reddest liver u can find. a #2 small "J" hook with a 1 ounce lead about a foot from the hook. set a big cork at a lenght that will keep the bait just off the bottom. been catchin a bunch of 5-9 inch cats every day with this setup
