I'm setting up a 125 with Geo. Redheads and Geo. Altifrons 'Rio Tocantins'. What would you suggest as tankmates??? I'm looking for something that will grow approx. 5-7" and stays around the middle and top portion of the tank. Any ideas?

silver dollars

Wow similiar to my plans I current have (8)"Red Heads" and (3) Altifron "Tapajos" I plan on combining in a tank along with a few Red-tail Hemiodus
to take up the top...how many of each are you planning on combining?:grinyes:

Red hooks, or other types of characins. Maybe even a massive school of cardinal tetras or something. I'm not familiar with top water fishes but if it were me I'd add 5+ tiger loaches or some other type of botia to liven up the tank and keep everything moving around. If you get a decent size shoal of clown loaches they will swim up and down the glass all day thinking you're going to throw them food lol.

he said 5-7", cardinals only get 2... ;)

i agree that silver dollars would be a great choice, they are active and stay within your size range.

Red Hooks however get larger, i wouldnt bother with the red hooks to be honest, IME they were pretty aggressive, they liked to chase and nip, especially those nice pretty trailers that the altifrons get.

if you were willing to go with a bit smaller of a size, id go with Buenos Aires tetras, 5" is possible, but more then just unlikely, 3-4 is probable, but thats what i would use personally.

G'day,
I know the size isn't really what your after but I agree with Gage, a shoal of Buenos Aires Tetras would be great up there, great looking fish and very active.
cheers
