I have a 240 gallon tank that as of now has a 55 gallon sump with bio balls and spoonge pads in. I am thinking aboout changing it with three FX5s. Will this filter better same or less???? The tank has 2 silver arowans,
3 Gold Dats, 5 Geophagus Altifrons and 4 red hump geos.

I'd go with the fx5s. If Harley K saw this he'd sayif you have the money to get a couple Eheim 2262s even though you didn't ask. You might look at them though seriously. I have a 210 with a rena xp4 and an fx5. I'm going to change the xp4 to an Eheim 2262 in the next few months because the xp4 isn't quite cutting it.

I'm a much bigger fan of sumps than any filter. If anything, increase the size of your sump to 75. You can't match the filtration space of a massive sump. Or even better, use the sump as bio filtration and add an FX5 for water polishing.

+1 for a sump combined with one or 2 FX5s. sumps are great for bio, and FX5s are great polishers. I have a 190g w/55g sump, FX5, and 2x AC110s. The extra water volume of a sump and ability to hide heaters and such is a great asset.

Both, I would add one or 2 fx5, remember they will need to cycle so you will have to have both hooked up at once

I have the fx5s but the sump their now is 48 inchs long and needs to come out to put an fx5 under the stand. Pros and cons here would also be noise the FX5s are very quiet compared to a sump.

I would stick with a sump, you can make it quiet without to much effort. If you have room, run at least 1 FX for mechanical.
