Hello everyone I am trying to make a diy background for my tank and I am not really liking the start of it. The only styro that I could find here locally is like a 1x4' sheet about a half inch thick. I am trying to silicone them together but it takes like 5 layers to get the thickness I need and thats not counting the room I will have to make for pumps and heaters, etc. My question is if I get the spray foam can I still carve it out and if I use it my plumbing will be permanantly in place. Does any one forsee any problems with using the spray foam?

It carves very nicely once dry the next day, I carved in some caves then added a little more spray foam around the edges to hide the straight cuts.

Add any air lines hoses ect. before you spray. but, then they are permanent.

or cut out sections after spray foam to make it removable.

I have used both regular foam coating in marine epoxy and spray foam and personally think the regular foam will create a better look, but the spray foam is easier. When I used spray foam I had to use an exacto to carve, taking away from realism. With the other style, you can dremmel it fairly easy (and messily) to get just the look you want.

worth .02 at most
