The following is based on this thread...

Do you inbreed your ray hoping for an albino OR keep the ray gene pool clean?

Let the games begin!

Based on this conversation...

I would bet that in future breedings the average normal to albino ratio from the parents will be 25 percent albino 75 percent normal. every pup born will have a 25 percent chance of being an albino and the normal looking pups have a 66 percent chance of carrying the albino gene heterzygously. If the father was bred back to the albino daughter the percentage would be 50 percent albinos and 50 percent heterozygous normal looking pups who carry the gene.

This is like hitting the lottery,,,, Congrats to the owner....

I say keep the lines clean. IMO even if the ray comes out looking normal you still have the chances that the ray can have a bad immune system or other health issues that can effect its life span.

It takes mice 21 consecutive Father/Daughter pairings for them to be considered inbred.

So are you saying that mice are more complex than rays?

Im curious how one measures and compares the complexity of animals?

I think this is more than likely another case where the allmighty dollar trumps all...........

There should be a 3rd button...... "I am glad that I'm so poor I'll never be faced with such a decision"

inbreed.... if we are keeping are tanks the way they should be and following all precautions i see no problem and one round of inbreeding i dont see any real harm from it...

and frank and nico have the option to just breed the leo with the pearl for pups... they can keep albinos coming and a seperate blood line

NO... just giving an example, Humans cannot do it, from what I remember it has to do with our "complexity". I graduated in '03! Just a little rusty.

Oh, forgot to add, I would only breed for that trait, normally I would not breed a father to a daughter or 2 siblings, etc... But honestly, if I had a ray pop out out an albino pup! Yeah, I would do what I could to get another, and I don't believe it would be compromising to the offspring.

That would be awesome IF people could stop at one round of inbreeding, which I dont think people can once they start. Like previously said, the almighty dollar would be to hard to resist for some.

Could you imagine having the market for bino rays? Every major ray keeper would be on your waiting list! :screwy:

I know theres another bino they can breed it with but Im saying just for the purposes of discussion regarding inbreeding what would people do? Most of us will never have one let alone two!

but one round breeding daddy to daughter is same as 8 rounds.... key would be finding another ray later on to cross back...
