WOULD YOU BUY A 150 GAL TANK THAT IS 72X18X28 0R 1 THAT IS 60X24X25? ..Both calculate out to be approx 155 US gal. I'm thinking the shorter wider tanks give me more surface area.

The difference in the surface area of these two tanks is not so great that I would use it as my determining factor. I think what would be more important is what you plan on keeping in the tank. If you are going to keep active swimmers, then the longer tank would be better in my opinion. If you plan on keeping cichlids or other territorial fish, the wider tank would probably be better as the extra width seems to allow the fish to pass each other without feeling as crowded, at least in my experience.

nicely said! if you can get a wider and longer tank that would be better! ask for the price difference. I got my 72x24x24 for $680 only. i could tell you where but it's local here in So. Cal.:)

Well these are the 2 tanks currently with in my price range and the space available in the house. the prices are within a few dollars of each other so this is what i have to work with. My mind still tells me wider would be better if only just a little bit.
