I was not really sure where to post this so I figured this spot would do.

I am currently running 3 tanks. (video's below)

Here are my issues:
1. I am really tired of cleaning 3 tanks (including such a big one)
2. I'd like to give my Dragon Eel a bigger and better home
3. I'd like to set-up a reef tank
4. I'm tired of feeding all the various types of fish different diets

So my thoughts were to sell my 240g, set up a new smaller 180g w/ MH lighting, move my DME to his new home and sell my 75g.

OR

I add MH lights to my PC lights on the 240g, clean, redo rock work and sell livestock. Restock with Chromis,Damsels, and Sgt Major's (LOTS OF THEM).

Once everything settles move my DME to the 240g and sell the 75g.

My final plans were to get a 180g Fresh and a 180g Salt tank, but I think I might loose more money than just using my already set-up 240g.

I KNOW THAT'S A LOT.

So what would you do?

1. Take the sand, rocks, filter, skimmer, PC lights, Power heads, etc sell the 240g tank, stand, canopy and set up a brand new 180g with all I can.

or

2. Make the already set-up 240g work by redecorating and adding MH lighting.

This is how I want my DME tank to look when I'm done.

Hm... this is a tough one. Sure keeping the largest tank like your 240 sounds awesome BUT>... with a reef tank, there is a mathmatical formula to how much it would cost per Gallonage. I forget what it is but for my wifes 150g It was going to cost us some where in the range of 7.5K-10k.

So that 240 would be nice if you can afford live sand, live rock, all the equipment that goes in to a living Reef aquarium. Definitly dont skimp on your Pump and lighting.

Ofcourse things could always be less expensive but way cry twice or more when your should only "cry once and buy once".

There is the bigger issue. I already have the sand, Live rock, pumps, wet/dry. skimmer, etc in place. I would just need to restack all the LR in a new way, catch and sell all the Livestock in there, and add the new lighting. But I would still have an 8' tank to clean and maintain vs a smaller 6' tank which means more water, chemicals, salt, fish, and corals, etc.

To be honest, it sounds like you have already decided. I had a 220G Reef a couple years ago and is was a lot of work, but it was also a great looking tank. The price is salt, chemicals, etc from 6' to 8' is not that big of a deal. If you just want a smaller tank to tank care of (which is what it sounds like) keep the smaller tank. I am sure the 240 is a taller tank, that can be a pain in the tail to work on.

Yes, I think I have already decided.
With the effort that it would take for me to break down the 240g and sell it at a loss.
And the effort it would take to replumb and buy a new 180g tank.....

I think I have decided to restructure, restock, and update lighting/equipment on the 240g.

I guess it's more to come on my 240g FOWLR to a 240g Reef with DME tank.

I loved my reef tank! But the $$$$$! Dont miss those electric bills.

I'm hoping unplugging 1 of the 3 tanks will help. I just got last months bill and when I opened it......:jaw::jaw::jaw:.:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA:

Your 2nd choice sounds like a great idea i would never sell a tank that size if i had it :O

That is now the plan..stay tuned.
