Okay, so I need to redo some top bracing on a 200g freshwater tank (60"Wx24"Dx32"H).

Should I use glass bracing ala eurobrace style or could I use steel angle iron welded together to create a top trim ring? I can get a steel brace welded up to replicate a plastic rim that comes on store bought tanks. Steel would save me a ton of time and money. If I have it fabricated just like a plastic ring/brace is there anything I need to worry about? It should function exactly the same, no? I would obviously prime and paint the steel to protect it from corrosion.

Which would you do and why?

Depends on the look you are going for. Me personally I would go for the glass bracing rather than the steel which would be more than strong enough.

Salt or fresh?

sounds good you should be good with 1/8' steel or stainless
