I put this in the general discussion are and have 0 responses. What would you folks do if this was you.

Well we are getting ready to have mold taken care of in our attic and I am trying to figure out what I should do?

2 years ago when the blizzard hit Chicago our roof took some serious damage. My HOA took forever to repair it and mold started growing in the attic. Now that we are getting ready to sell our townhome it is time to have it professionally taken care of.

I have way to big of tanks to just break them down and move them into the garage for this so I was wondering. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Should I be worried about the chemicals getting into the air and making it to my tanks? They are going to seal off all entrances to the attic but I am still concerened. Should I tent the tanks off with plastic just to be safe? What does everyone think?

According to the company doing this they have never had any issues but of course they can't guarantee anything. Just trying to look out for my babies.

I would not worry about it, if those chemicals they use are harsh enough to kill your fish just from being in the air then they would kill animals and people. Now if they poured them straight in your tank you would have a problem.

Scott s thanks for the reply that helps. Didn't know if I was going to have to go Chernobyl on my tanks and seal them off. Mostly because my main tank is in a two story living room where the attic access is in an upstairs hallway just up and to the right of the tank. The hallway is open to the living room.uploadfromtaptalk1342791643203.jpg

find a company that uses dry ice blasting to remove the mold. This way no chemical would be involved in removing the mold and your fish would be safe.

first thing i would do is ask exactly what they are doing and go from there.. ide probably tent the tank close to the attic entry just so i slept at night fine. and ide probablly plan on doing some extra water changes that week. but unless they are useing anything particularly caustic i wouldnt worry much.

Thanks for the responses. With all the chemicals used to clean mold that is what I automatically assumed. Didn't realize they have greener ways of mold removal. I guess I will be finding out which method they are using. Thanks again.
