So I have a male and female midas who I believe are beginning to pair off. They swim around each other and gill flare but after a little courtship the male will chase the female away and gets pretty aggressive, until he sees me and them he will stop. Now im going out of town soon and I was wondering if I should put the divider in while I am gone to prevent the male from butchering the female because with out me being there Im afraid he might kill her. At the same time I am wondering if there are no disturbances, as I am frequently by the tank, will they be able to court with out being interrupted, strengthening the bond. They court but when they see me, they will sometimes stop. Any suggestions? Please let me know.

It takes a pissed off male less than 5 minutes to kill or mess up the female beyond healing... With that said I wouldn't risk it. I would just divide them since you already have a divider available. Even dithers didn't stop the aggression my male gave to his mate. It was wierd... They spawned, then the next day he snapped almost killing her. If I wouldn't have had a lunch break I would have lost her. I guess he just wanted to raise the fry by himself. But yeah I would divide them.
