What would you keep with an oscar in a 125g tank?

I am getting a 125g tank soon and I have some ideas, but haven't decided yet. He is pretty aggressive for an oscar, but he isn't the meanest fish ever just so you know

A quick answer is anything that will not fit in its mouth.

Is this an oscar you already have? If so how big is it?

Oscars can be a little mean but really the main concern is normally their big fat mouths as I have had friends that have lost a few good sized cons to Oscars that finally one day decided to have a snack.

I have had friends that have had a lot of luck keeping JD's with them.

Otherwise I would give us some more feedback about what you might have in mind.

best tankmates can be large acaras, severums, dempseys, and other cichlids that are low on the aggressiveness scale

Jack Dempseys have always been a good fit with my Oscars. My advice is buy cichlids that are not big enough to challenge your Oscars dominance but not to small to be eaten. It's better to have an Oscar rule the tank then a Red Devil which my lay waste to everything.

I have a 125 that has a large albino oscar, a vontehillo, a lyonsi (actually a pair, but rehoming the female, because... well, the male is kicking her arse, and a female festae).

All get along great, aside from the lyonsi pair problem. Actually, the oscar is the boss, and keeps everyone else in check.

my oscar is housed with a paratilapia polleni (black diamond cichlid). both are about the same as far as temperament and aggression. the oscar is about 11 inches (TL) and the polleni is about 9 (TL). they have the odd little sparring contest where they will face off with open mouths (but without biting or contacting one another) if one gets too close to the others territory, but generally they get along well and i have no issues with them in a tank that has minimal decor. my 'big guys' grew up together, from the oscar being less than 3 inches and the polleni being about 3.5 inches.
