What would you put in this?

It doesnt have to survive the winter, it can always come inside and wait for spring in a cozy tank :) staying outside year long would be great though

I was just hoping there was something other than koi to keep in it, so I can convince my uncle of keeping it

well if the fish come inside in the winter, why not go with cichlids? hardier types anyways, a few oscars/red devil/convicts/firemouth just to name a few

I use to stock out smaller pond with platies, mollies, guppies.. whatever caught my attention and bred like mice... they did very well and I'de bring them in and cull them every fall, so by spring I had a nice group to put back in. Lots of color and action.. and if the local critters ate them enough usually survived to re-populate or they where cheap to re-stock ( petsmarts 1$ per fish sales ect..)

I like the bigger cichlid idea!
Im hoping he will like whatever fish gets put in there enough to make him want to build a nice tank in the basement. More for me than him ;)
