i have a 180 with 2 fx5 and 1 xp3 about a month and a half ago one of my fx5 somehow sprung a major leak and more than half of my tanks water emptied out and flooded my downstairs neighbor....my landlord said the tank had to go ---i sold everything fish lighting filters uv sterilizer everything but the tank 3 weeks ago he tells me i can keep my tank under 2 conditions i have to get renters insurance (done) and i cant keep any canister filtration because of the volume of water being pumped in and out of the tank.....semi pissed off i understood....i went out and bought 3 aquaclear 110s and 7 frontosas about 2 inches. is this enough filtration what other options do i have...i also have 2 decent powerheads and i substrate is black marble tile...the powerheads do a good job moving debris and the 3 aquaclears are great but i feel i need more

i would do another ac110, but thats just me

i want to do that but the 2 top braces on top of the tank prevent me from placing another ac 110

go with sump u can make it flood proof, especially with the tank size u have, its just perfect candidate.
sump pump can be even quiter than canister if u know how it works.(which is that the only advantage of the canister filter)
thats the only reason i avoid canister style filter its basically time bomb ticking.
i know they r great filters but to me it has major flaw that i can not accept.

i have no experience with sumps ... they seem ultra complicated

they really are not, looks complicated because u can do in in 1001 ways.
the first make an overflow, alot of DIY here and some good article about it made very helpful member.
