Garibaldi are highly territorial. If you've ever kept damsels, you've seen how scrappy they can get. Garibaldi are the largest and most aggressive of the damsels. Another factor to contend with is temperature. These fish must be maintained in highly aerated tanks with temps in the 60s.

Of course, that doesn't confront the fact that, as CA's official state fish, the garibaldi is highly protected and illegal to possess in CA.
 
I've seen them for sale in stores several times.
 
I wouldn't take anything from the ocean not worth it Garibaldi are extremely mean and even in a FOWLR will terrorize the other fish your better off looking for a better tank mate.

I've seen garibaldi in lfs', too. On the price lists, they're said to be coming from Mexico waters (I used to moonlight at Clairemont Tropical and That Fish Store.)
