Just wondering because I get paid once a month so I budget my money. I hit the LFS and grab filters, media, amquel and, food. Runs me about $110./mo. for my 4 tanks. Not considering electricity and fish purchases are extras to the budget. Luckily my last couple have been trades. So how much does it take for you to maintain your hobby?
way too much... If I could stop buying new stuff, then I could get away with about $10-15 a week (since I buy in bulk I don't need to replace that much that often), with some more every now and then for the big stuff.
however... lastmonth i got myself a la-z-boy so i could spent more time sitting infront of the tanks... this month i had to get a rubbermade container, filters, heater, ect. to set up a travel tank for when terminix comes and tents the property for this magical "underground termite" issue...
the rest of the year i think the budget is a lil closer to $20 a month.. if that... and thats including picking up the latest issue of whatever fish mag it is that my gf gets...
I got it pretty easy as i have a heavily planted SA tank. But about $50 a month on new hoses, frozen foods and select veggies ;-). But the key i have found is buying things like water dechlor. Flourish, and other conditioners in bulk saves you a small fortune... Plus having a planted tank saves on having to replace carbon every month.
electricity and water is about 10-12 dollars a month. food runs about $5. all else is bewteen 10-15 at the very most. that does not count buying new equipment or such- only maintaining what i have.
