Looks like a Red Devil to me (A.labiatus). Look at those lovely big lips !!

In truth it may have some midas blood in it too, as most of the generally available midas and red devils available in LFS today are apparently something of a hybrid between the two.

Yours looks to be mainly (if not even purely) RD though.

thank you for your help so i think it is very hard to difrenteivl between midas and red devil

Ya, that's a RD.

Fish looks like a female Red Devil.............The lips are thick enough to say so.........Try posting a picture next month..............Personally, male RD's are what you go for.........Red Devils are known for their owner responsive attitude.............Their large humps that form on their foreheads are know as koks...........They get larger as they grow, well dpending on their gene, but most of the time they big.............

To correct a few points....the hump on the head is called a 'nuchal hump'. It was only with the insurgence of the flowerhorn craze that got the name changed to 'kok'. Also Red Devils (pure A. labiatus) do not typically grow large nuchal humps. Males will grow one, and females can too when breeding, but typically Midas are bigger, stockier fish and are more likely to grow a large nuchal hump.

I also don't really see anything about the lips on this fish that would make me scream "red devil". They're protruding somewhat because the mouth is partially open but the lips themselves don't really appear to be all that "englarged". Besides, captive red devils typically don't maintain the thick lips anyway.

To know for sure about the gender you would have to vent the fish. To know for sure about the ID you would have to know the source of the fish and it would have to be a reputable breeder/importer/seller. Without knowing just assume it's a 'Midevil'...which is the midas/red devil cross you're going to find in the average LFS.

At this size it does appear to have more traits of red devil but it's also still fairly young. It's only as the fish grows closer to it's adult size that the differences will really start to show to distinguish between midas and red devil.

:)
