I brought a repti therm under tank heater yesterday from a lfs for my new scorpions. When I brought it, I already felt something was wrong because there's no temperature adjustment thing on the heater. Still, I brought it because the owner told me it would definitly get my temperature in my tank up to my satisfaction. when I started the heater, I felt the thing barely warm up. i thought it was going to heat up later. 2 hours later, there's still no increase. this morning, i find that my 2 scorpions are barely alive.:swear: thx to the useless heater. so my tip for everyone is DONT BUY repti therm under tank heater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've used them for years...never had a problem. They are not the only source of heat I have, but are on constantly with a basking bulb providing the daytime highs...I also use them on the side of the tank vice under it.

Whats size is the heater in relation to your enclosure?

my tank is 10g and the heater is supposedly for 10-20g tanks. all i know is this morning, i find my scorpions barely alive and my tank freezing even though the heater is turned on.

It really depends on your ambient temp, I usually insulate them with bubble foil and use a dimmer switch to control temp.

i might as well not plug the heater in at all if i insulated mine with bubble wrap
