I'm about to buy a SeaClear II 75/80G tank from a guy on craigslist.

He mentioned that the built in filter was customized for a "closed loop system".

can anyone explain what this is? or what's the difference b/w this and a normal wet/dry system. thanks.

It is attached and part of the back of the tank....

A closed loop system is much the same as a canister system. A wet/dry requires contact with the air to oxygenate the water and a closed loop takes it's oxygen from the water. Think of it as being a pressurized system.

If its what im thinking it is...its a way to add current to the tank with out running it through the filter and not needing a bunch of power heads. You can only run so much GPH through a wet dry filter and if you have a reef tank you usually want more current than that. So you usually have a bunch of power heads. A closed loop simply has a intake for a extra pump on the back of the tank usualy and then some way to get the water back in the tank either through the back again or how ever. This way the extra pumps flows a bunch of water but doesnt over power the wetdry. Not sure if thats what he is talking about tho....
